The village’s name comes from Kanatal Lake, which once existed but is now no longer visible. Surkanda Devi Temple is the most popular tourist site among Kanatal’s many beautiful attractions. According to mythology, this is where the Hindu Goddess Sati’s head fell while Lord Shiva was dancing furiously, carrying the dead body of Devi Sati.
